The University of North Dakota (UND or North Dakota) is a public research university in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It was established by the Dakota Territorial Assembly in 1883, six years before the establishment of the state of North Dakota. The university has the only schools of law and medicine in the state of North Dakota. The John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences was the first in the country to offer a degree in unmanned aircraft systems operation. Several national research institutions are on the university's campus including the Energy and Environmental Research Center, the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities High research activity".
The University of North Dakota places a strong emphasis on teaching and learning throughout its academic structure. While not a single department, this vital function is deeply embedded across various colleges and support centers, particularly within the College of Education and Human Development. This college serves as a core hub, offering numerous programs focused on teacher training, educational research, and leadership. Complementing this, the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning provides essential support to faculty university-wide, offering resources and workshops on innovative teaching methods and technology integration. UND is dedicated to providing exceptional educational experiences through a focus on student-centered learning, diverse pedagogical approaches, and technology integration to enrich the learning environment.
